The DLD College London football team has been crowned ICL Spring Term League Champions 2019. This means the team has achieved the league double (autumn and spring) for the first time in recent years. The team also finished their 11-a-side season with a win percentage of 57.1%. This includes wins against top boys schools such as Mill Hill, Merchant Taylor’s and Dulwich College last weekend.
On Tuesday our A Level students performed a selection of pieces they have been developing for their exam. DLD’s theatre was ideal for this event. Its intimacy helps students cope with the nerves of having to perform and be examined at the same time!
Year 12 students intending to make competitive applications to UK and US universities attended the Oxford and Cambridge Student Conference at the historic Epsom Downs racecourse in Surrey.
Last Friday, DLD College London students attended an Model United Nations (MUN) conference at Haileybury school. Having attended MUN conferences in the past, this one was unlike any other I have previously taken part in.
It’s been another busy week here at DLD College London with numerous opportunities for students and staff to get involved in, for example there was an exciting Physics trip to CERN to see the Large Hadron Collider and we celebrated as a school the beginning of the Iranian New Year.
DLD College London Year 12 and 13 students enjoyed an enlightening visit to the Particle Physics Research Centre at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, in Geneva, Switzerland on Monday and Tuesday this week.
The current DLD College London band club have been working together since September when Harry (guitar) and Sem (bass) got the ball rolling and were soon joined by Eduardo on drums, thus completing the rhythm section and playing some Beatles songs and other classics. Shortly after this, Penelope and Andrea joined, bringing vocals and guitar and the band began exploring new styles and songs.
Congratulations to all the staff and students that battled the tough weather conditions on Sunday to run 5k or 10k in support of Evelina Children’s Hospital.
On Thursday Classics students returned to Gresham College to hear a fascinating lecture by the well-established classical scholar Edith Hall.
BTEC 1 enjoyed a behind the scenes visit to Harrods last week. They were given a wonderful guided tour by Tim, who pointed out some of the fascinating history behind the world famous department store.
