DLD College London Classics Lecture

On Thursday DLD College London Classics students returned to Gresham College to hear a fascinating lecture by the well-established classical scholar Edith Hall. In the lecture she discussed the importance of the death rituals in Athenian society, enriching our contextual knowledge of plays and texts on the curriculum for Classical Civilisation. She highlighted connections between speeches by ancient statesmen such as Pericles with those in the 21st century and showed how some of the same basic political ideas remain relevant. The speaker was engaging and we all made notes meticulously, a worthwhile trip!
