In addition to subject lessons, each week students have additional timetabled sessions focusing on their physical, social and professional development.
Study Skills
Holistic skills are required from young people to be able to study independently, to develop their ability to communicate in a variety of contexts, and to problem solve with creative innovative thinking. This preparation course develops these core skills through practical applications and supports and compliments the academic programmes on offer at DLD College London. Such skills are also transferable into wider life thereby future proofing our students.
Careers & Professional Development
Careers Support is delivered by our specialised staff and students have access to advanced careers software enabling informed decisions and a full understanding of all options available including university, apprenticeships and traineeships.
We also support students to develop the skills required to succeed in the world of work. Students on our two year GCSE programme receive extra lessons offering interactive and experiential courses to gain real-world experience of the workplace. Through these they will develop time-management, communication, critical thinking and leadership skills.
Personal, Social, Health & Economic (PSHE) Education
All students receive a minimum of one 35-minute tutor period led PSHE per week focusing on personal development, resilience, mental health awareness, tolerance, and global citizenship. The aim of these sessions is to help and support our students navigate the ever-changing challenges involved with growing up. We discuss and unpick a range of topics including sexual health, drugs and alcohol, resilience, mental health and much more.
Sport
Students will have a Sport lesson once a week as part of their timetable. Students are introduced to a variety of activities which change half termly. This can include but is not limited to indoor Football, Basketball, Netball, Yoga, and Strength and Conditioning. We use high quality facilities locally including Archbishop’s Park and the onsite Urbanest gym. Students will learn to improve their skills and tactical awareness as well as understanding the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle. Students who love their sports lessons and want to do more are encouraged to try-out for one of our sports teams as part of the Co-curricular programme.
