8 Reasons to Study in London

9th October 23

There are numerous reasons why studying in London can be a great choice. Here are eight compelling reasons to consider:

  1. Academic Excellence: London is home to some of the world’s leading universities and educational institutions. Many of our students go onto London universities including Imperial College London, University College London (UCL), King’s College London, and the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). These institutions offer a wide range of high-quality programs across various disciplines, ensuring you continue to receive a world-class education. You can see some of our alumni and their stories here.

  1. Global Reputation: London has a global reputation for students, currently ranked as the best city in the world for students according to QS. London is a major global hub for business, finance, technology, and the creative industries. By studying in London, you gain proximity to a wide range of internships, networking events, and employment opportunities. The city attracts multinational corporations, startups, and entrepreneurs, making it an excellent place to kick-start your career. At DLD, we have regular visits from industry leaders with Jaguar Land Rover and Schroders visiting most recently to share career opportunities and offer advice to our students.

  1. Capital of Culture: London is a vibrant, diverse, and culturally rich city with a fascinating history. It offers an incredible mix of art galleries, museums, theatres, and historical landmarks. From the British Museum to the Tate Modern, West End shows to world-class music. Studying in London provides abundant opportunities for cultural enrichment for our students and at DLD we fully embrace this, ‘London is our classroom’. Our unique Year 9 curriculum allows students to make the most of our London location, as we take students out every Friday into the city as part of the ‘Urban Schools Project’.  Students will work in cross-curricular projects, getting involved in the community and develop their research, inquiry and reflection skills using everything the capital has to offer, instilling an awareness beyond the conventional.

  1. Access to Resources: London provides exceptional access to libraries, research facilities, and academic resources. We have a wide range of resources available at DLD with a well-stocked library and online resources. However, if there is anything you need, we have an excellent relationship with the London Library – a treasure trove of knowledge, housing an extensive collection of books, manuscripts, and historical documents.

  1. International Community: London has a large and diverse international student community and that is evident at DLD with over 55 nationalities represented among our student body. By studying in London, you’ll have the opportunity to interact with students from around the world, expanding your global perspective, fostering cultural exchange, and building lifelong friendships. Read more about our students and their stories here.

  1. Location and Travel Opportunities: DLD’s unique location by London Waterloo and convenient access to buses and the London Underground mean students have ample opportunities to broaden their horizons and enjoy the cultural experiences London has to offer. London’s central location within Europe makes it an ideal base for getting in and out of the continent with all of London’s major international airports less than an hour away and excellent Eurostar connections.

  1. Multicultural Experience: London is renowned for its multiculturalism and diversity. The city embraces people from different backgrounds, religions, and cultures. By studying in London, you’ll be immersed in a cosmopolitan environment, promoting cultural understanding, tolerance, and global citizenship. Diversity is part a key part of our ethos, our student intake is split between 40% domestic and 60% international. Therefore, we work hard to ensure every student feels welcome and has a home from home. Our Global Kitchen reflects our student body, providing a diverse, nutritious menu meeting the myriad of dietary requirements and plays a central role in celebrating the many festivals and cultural events we commemorate as part of our student wellbeing commitment.

  1. Student Experience: London offers an exciting and vibrant lifestyle. From world-class restaurants and diverse culinary experiences to an array of entertainment options, including theatres, music venues, sports events, and festivals, there is never a dull moment in the city. You’ll have ample opportunities to explore and indulge in various activities outside of your studies. See why many of our students chose to study in London and more importantly, at DLD!
