Geography Field Trip

8th October 26

Our Year 13 Geography students swapped the classroom for the coast, travelling to the Field Studies Centre at Slapton in Devon for a residential fieldwork trip.

Based at the Centre, students spent their days collecting data, testing hypotheses and applying what they have learned over the course of their A Level studies. The trip is a key part of their independent investigations, giving them the chance to gather first-hand evidence in a real-world setting.

Slapton provided a rich and varied backdrop for their work. From the wind-whipped shingle ridge to the freshwater lagoon behind it, the landscape offered students plenty to observe, measure and analyse. Despite some muddy and windy conditions, they approached every task with enthusiasm and determination.

Fieldwork like this brings the subject to life in a way the classroom cannot. Working outdoors, students develop practical skills in data collection and analysis, learn to solve problems as they arise, and build the confidence to carry out their own enquiries independently.

We would like to thank our Geography team for organising and leading the trip, and the staff at the Field Studies Centre for their support and expertise throughout. Their hard work made it a valuable few days for everyone involved.
