Marking Armistice Day

17th November 25

On Armistice Day, students and staff took part in a moving act of remembrance, visiting the Cenotaph in Whitehall to honour those who gave their lives in service. The visit provided a powerful opportunity for reflection as the school community joined others in observing the traditional two minutes’ silence at 11am.

Standing in quiet respect at one of the nation’s most significant memorials, students reflected on the sacrifices made by previous generations and the importance of remembering history as part of their learning and personal development.

As part of the our continued commitment to fostering understanding and global awareness, Greg Slysz, Head of History, also curated a special Remembrance Exhibition in the Atrium.

The morning links with DLD’s ‘London is our classroom’ philiosophy — encouraging students to engage directly with London’s history, culture, and life.

Reflecting on the day, Principal James Kidd said, “Remembrance is an essential part of our shared values at DLD. It reminds us of the importance of empathy, respect, and gratitude — qualities that we seek to nurture in all our students.”

Through remembrance, reflection, and active engagement, we continue to inspire students to understand the past, value the present, and contribute thoughtfully to the future
