Year 9 students recently welcomed parents and visitors to a special event celebrating their “London Learning” project — an engaging programme where students explore the capital through educational trips and creative work.
The event brought together parents of current students alongside families whose children will be joining DLD in the next academic year. It provided a wonderful opportunity to share the students’ experiences and achievements, while giving future families a glimpse into life at the college.
A highlight of the event was a short film created by the students during their media sessions. From planning and filming to editing and performance, students demonstrated impressive creativity and teamwork. The final result was both engaging and professional, reflecting the skills they have developed throughout the project.
In addition to the film, students showcased a wide range of work inspired by their trips across London. Displays included detailed drawings created after their visit to London Zoo, focusing on endangered animals, as well as imaginative 3D volcano models and creative board games. Students also shared thoughtful “Notes for Future Year 9s,” offering advice and reflections on their experiences.
Another standout element was an audio storytelling project, where students produced a radio-style piece using sound, voice and editing techniques. The final recordings were imaginative and expressive, showcasing their communication skills and creativity.
The event was a fantastic celebration of student achievement, creativity and confidence. We are incredibly proud of the effort and enthusiasm shown by Year 9, and we look forward to seeing how they continue to develop their skills in future projects.
