SCAD Visit

24th June 25

In a unique collaboration between DLD and Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) students, in a one-day photography workshop we explored the vibrant area of Lambeth venturing to Leake Street and Lower Marsh. This immersive experience aimed to blend the artistry of still life, portraiture, and environmental observation, offering participants a diverse range of subjects to capture through their lenses.

Led by esteemed photographers Michael O’Brien and John Hovey from SCAD, alongside DLD’s own Jack Chester, Maya Coleborn, Ljubinka Jeftic, Michael Whitfield, Chad Calderbank and Andy Knight, this workshop was a day filled with creativity and collaboration. The day was packed with exciting activities to inspire and challenge the students.

The day kicked off with a warm welcome cup of coffee, setting the tone for a day of exploration and learning. Following an introduction and briefing, students were paired up with working partners to embark on their photographic journey through the bustling streets of London.

Armed with 35mm cameras and smartphones, participants spent the morning capturing the essence of Leake Street and Lower Marsh. Each location offering its own unique backdrop for creative expression. After a well-deserved lunch at DLD Global Kitchen, the afternoon session focused on uploading, choosing, editing, and printing the photographs taken. In a student-led Q&A session, providing an opportunity for reflection, feedback, and shared insights, the work was then curated into a one-off photo book. Each student was then gifted the Art of DLD 2024-2025 photobook.

By bringing together students from different backgrounds and disciplines, this photography workshop aimed to foster creativity, teamwork, and artistic growth. Through hands-on experience and mentorship from industry professionals, participants were not only hone their technical skills but also develop a deeper appreciation for the art of photography, where every corner holds a story waiting to be told through the lens of a camera.
