Year 12 Politics Students Explore Justice First-Hand at the UK Supreme Court

20th May 25

Our Year 12 Government & Politics students recently had the unique opportunity to visit the UK Supreme Court in Westminster, deepening their understanding of the British legal and political system.

The visit offered students an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the nation’s highest court, including a guided tour of the Appeal Courts. Students learned about the court’s vital role in upholding the rule of law and its place within the broader framework of the UK’s constitutional arrangements.

One of the highlights of the trip was a mock criminal case, where students stepped into the shoes of barristers and judges, testing their advocacy and critical thinking skills in a courtroom setting. This immersive activity gave them first-hand experience of legal procedures, argument construction, and public speaking—key components of political and legal study.

The trip was designed to directly support the A-Level Government & Politics curriculum, offering real-world context to the theory explored in class. As one student put it, “It brought our studies to life. Being in the Supreme Court and taking part in a mock trial gave us an insight into how politics and law intersect in a practical, powerful way.”

Experiences like this are part of DLD’s commitment to academic enrichment, helping students connect classroom learning with real-world institutions and careers.
