Northern House Update

3rd November 23

Northern House have quickly settled into life at DLD College and have had a strong start to the academic year! As well as settling down into their academic studies, students have been getting involved in a wide array of co-curricular activities ranging from sports such as football and netball to academic societies such as debating and wellbeing societies such as the debating society. It has been wonderful to see students building life skills in these activities that will stay with them beyond their academic careers.

Before half term the House Competitions officially kicked off with football. Northern House put out a strong team that fought hard to come out on top, winning the first House Competition for the academic year – hopefully this is a sign of things to come! This month we are looking forward to seeing members of Northern House battle it out in the basketball and table tennis competitions! We also had a spooky start to the new half term with Halloween and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the students dressed up to celebrate. Northern House students really pulled it out of the bag this year with their costumes with Alina S winning the costume of the year!

This year we have seen an introduction of the year 9 programme which has seen some new students join our Northern House Upper School cohort. They have settled in really well and are thriving academically. Our more senior students are now preparing their UCAS applications and looking at destinations for their academic career after their time at DLD College has come to an end. It has been wonderful to see the students be so proactive about participating in university open days and reflecting on their achievements to build their personal statements.

Northern House are also continuing uphold their strong reputation in the College with them firmly holding second place in the house points competition. Students are now starting to reach the Bronze Certificate milestone which is a big achievement they should be very proud of, and I am looking forward to presenting them with their certificates. Congratulations to all our Northern House students for their hard work over the past half term!
