7th September 23
It has been a rather busy start to life at DLD College London for our new boarding students. Induction weekend offered them a great insight into what both DLD and London has to offer. We kicked off the weekend with a Boarding Bruch, where all students were invited to sit and eat together as one cohort – something we have not previously arranged as part of the planned activities in the past. Once fed and watered, students headed off to meet their Houseparents – which also provided the chance to introduce themselves to their House peers and begin to form new friendships.
Houses formed and friendships made, students were then introduced to the first inter-House boarding competition of the year ‘get to know London Challenge’, where they were tasked to get into groups to find and take creative group photographs in front of various locations within the heart of London such as Buckingham Palace, Horse Guards Parade, Trafalgar Square etc. All of which are located on our doorstep! Students were fully immersed in this competition and sent us in some fabulous shots. We rounded off Saturday evening with Just Dance and Karaoke, a light-hearted, but fun end to a tiring day.
Sunday was more of a chilled vibe within the boarding house. A late brunch followed by an open top bus tour of London, gave the students an opportunity to sit back, relax and chat to their new friends whilst seeing wider London such as Tower Bridge and St Paul’s Cathedral. A return to school mid afternoon allowed students free time to head out and shop for any last-minute essentials, decorate bedrooms and begin to plan for a busy week ahead.
In the evening, new boarders congregated in the Atrium for their induction presentation, where they were able to meet the wider boarding team and get to grips with all things DLD. We rounded off an action-packed weekend with a movie and some snacks before students headed up to their rooms to get some well-earned rest.
I would like to take the opportunity to welcome the new boarders and their families to DLD and thank them for fully investing themselves into their first weekend with us!
