Back in March, the English Department announced the Ten-Book Challenge. Three separate lists were drawn up for Year 10/11, Year 12 and DLD staff. In this new age of ChatGPT and AI-written novels, we wanted to promote the power and primacy of great literature.
We are very pleased to announce that the first person to complete the Challenge was Lily P from Year 12. In recognition of her achievement, she has been awarded a year’s membership of the London Library.
When speaking to Lily about the challenge she said:
“Completing the reading challenge has been a most enriching experience; it presented a far broader range of books than I would have otherwise been exposed to. Every book was enjoyable and insightful, though the most challenging read was probably James Joyce’s Dubliners. It was wonderful to have such a focus for my reading, and reminded me how powerful a medium literature is in communicating cultural and historical attitudes.”
