The River Thames outside DLD College London

From the Principal #87

18th September 20

Walking around College and seeing students and staff in classrooms, the Atrium, in the boarding house, the Global Kitchen and on the new Sports Pitch and Wellbeing Garden has been both heartening and reassuring.

I have been delighted by how everyone is adapting to the new school ‘normal’. I believe it is a testament to the DLD spirit where everyone goes that extra mile and where nothing is impossible.

From the success of our blended learning where our students are benefitting from an exceptional education wherever they are in the world, to the quality of service by our brilliant catering team in the Global Kitchen – everyone is working hard to ensure that it’s business as usual (with the new safety measures in place of course!) for our students and staff. And everyone is clearly enjoying being back.

Our new football and netball teams (great turn out by the way) are preparing for the season ahead and staff are putting the final touches to the extensive co-curricular programme and academic societies which start next week. It was great to see the new Lower School House system well under way this week promoting healthy competition amongst our students (and staff!). Our boarders too, who have completed their ‘cocooning’ have now joined the College community and are settling into the new rhythms and routines of school life and making new friends.

Yes, it is all different with the safety measures in place, but we are adapting and adopting a new pedagogy and are committed in providing an outstanding all-round education and excellent pastoral care for all of our students, whatever the climate. And the weather has been glorious too this week!

Best wishes

Irfan
