The Principal, Rachel Borland, kindly invested in two sets of tickets for the Art & Design department to take two students along to attend the London Fashion Week on Friday, 24th February.

Our students could win the tickets by entering our DLD Fashion competition. To enter they had to submit 300 words on ‘What Fashion Means To Me’ and three original, self-made fashion related images. This allowed our panel of judges made up of Rachel Borland and three members of the Creativity Arts Faculty to select two students who would accompany Jonathan Parkhouse, Art Foundation Co-ordinator/Art & Design Teacher to the event. This competition was extremely successful, and showed the range of creative ability our students possess. Katya Bobina and Aysha Nagieva were the two lucky students that won the tickets to attend London Fashion Week!

Ashyha Nageva commented: “I was really pleased to win one of the tickets to London Fashion Week, as it gave me a great opportunity to see what is going on in the fashion industry. It was a very enjoyable and exciting day that helped me to learn a little more about the world of fashion. I was very grateful that DLD organised this competition, as it challenged me and exposed me to an exciting, new experience connected to Art & Design.”

Jonathan Parkhouse commented: “Accompanying Katya Bobina and Aysha Nagieva to the Event was an extremely enjoyable experience. It was obviously a lot of fun, but also an absolute pleasure to go with two such extremely polite and charming students.”

“The fashion bazaar, in the cavernous building at the Strand, and the two fashion catwalk shows, had a wonderful creative energy, as befits a City at the cutting edge of fashion and textile design. It was also fascinating to see the variety and innovation of many of the promotional stalls, featuring established and emerging designers, and witness first-hand the sheer hard work that goes in to an event of this kind.”

“At the actual catwalk shows, which included the ‘Mother of Pearl’ label, some of the clothes were beautiful contemporary expressions of creativity and craft. I have also never before seen so many individuals taking so many selfies and photographs in such a frenzied atmosphere as the models promenaded up and down the catwalk. This was an event in itself!”
