Developing Academic English skills as part of Enrichment Week

29th June 23

As part of Enrichment Week, the Academic English Department ran a session on Research and Presentation skills, with a view to supporting the students in the development of useful, transferable skills, such as conducting research, identifying relevant information, and preparing and delivering PowerPoint presentations.

Students learnt the importance of time management, audience engagement, body language, eye contact and projection of voice, to name but a few invaluable skills. Students selected current, global issues to investigate and present to their teachers and peers, and delivered their presentations skilfully and with great aplomb, so much so they could very easily have been mistaken for experts on the subjects!

Each presentation was followed by a brief Q & A session, and constructive feedback from both students and teachers. It was without a doubt a fruitful and productive day for all the students involved, a further illustration of the unique learning opportunities on offer at school. We, the teachers, were impressed by the attitude of the students and the quality and standard of their work.
