15th June 23
Year 12 Classics students went on a trip to the Luxury and Power: Persia to Greece exhibition at the British Museum on Thursday 15th June and will complete a material culture/art project next week to explore and recreate the most significant object in the exhibition. Students thoroughly enjoyed the trip out of the classroom as a valuable learning experience to put their teachings into practice and appreciate the significance of seeing the artifacts for themselves.
The display makes clear the connection between luxury, prestige and power which transformed the Greek world following the Graeco-Persian Wars and after the discovery of the Persian King’s tent, “Treasure there was in plenty-tents full of gold and silver furniture. When Pausanias saw it and its embroidered hangings, he could hardly believe his eyes” Herodotus.
