9th June 23

Gareth Evans, Assistant Principal (Lower School)

It has been wonderful to welcome back staff and students following the summer half term. We now have less than four weeks of the school year remaining until the summer holidays, but it is going to be a very busy and fun packed four weeks!

We wish Years 14, 13 and 11 all the best as they complete their final public exams.  It has been heart-warming to see the buzz of activity around the school as we reach the climax of the exam season.  Our students have worked so hard and we wish them every success. All they can do now is enjoy the break, look forward to the future and try not to think too much about August. It will be here soon enough! Now it is the turn of the other years groups who are busy preparing for their summer exams. These exams are an opportunity to showcase what they have learnt this year but also for our teachers to understand what additional support our students might require.

In the final week of term, we have a fun packed enrichment week – details of which can be read below. Wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do here at DLD College and this week the new Wellbeing Team on the Student Council launched their Wellbeing drop-in schedule. This is an opportunity for our students to have a friendly face to speak to about who they can get support and help from in the school.  There are lots of different avenues for support including the School Counsellors, Matron, Neurodiversity Department, House-Parents, Tutors and House Masters/Mistress. However, student wellbeing can only happen if we have excellent staff wellbeing, so this week staff also took part in a wellbeing carousel with sessions supporting stress management and meditation practices on offer.

Last but certainly not least June is Pride Month which is a time to celebrate and recognise the LGBTQ+ community. At DLD College, diversity is at our core; we value it and are a stronger school community for it.

Have a wonderful weekend and don’t forget that sunscreen – it’s going to be a scorcher!
