The River Thames outside DLD College London

From The Principal #147

6th May 22

With the May bank holiday reducing the week to just four days of lessons, the week has flown by! This week has seen the sun come out, the resultant lift in mood helping lift some of the pre-exam anxieties. With the first public examinations for many starting this week, the ‘business end’ of school life has started. It is important that all students are creating – and sticking to – a revision timetable, but with my pastoral hat on, please do also include time for relaxation, de-stress and something which takes the mind off of revision…it is important that a healthy body and mind are in place during the examination period! Staff are here to support students throughout – whether subject teachers for revision checks or tutors, houseparents and various others for a pastoral chat/check-in; don’t be a stranger!

This week also saw us hear about two awards which we were nominated for, by the Boarding Schools’ Association. Despite not winning, being a finalist in national competitions in the areas of ‘Inclusion and Diversity’ and ‘Supporting International Boarders’ is a great achievement for all involved and recognition for the outstanding work that so often goes on behind the scenes.

By the time you are reading this, students will be preparing for the Summer Ball; it is great to have this back on our calendar after a Covid-enforced break. I hope everyone attending has an excellent time and I look forward to seeing the plethora of photos that will no doubt serve as a reminder of a brilliant evening; my thanks, in advance, to Jess Ellett and her team of students for all their work putting on the event.

Have a great week.

Best wishes,
James Kidd
