The River Thames outside DLD College London

From the Principal #115

It has been a difficult year to manage the changing environment due to COVID-19. It changed many of the things we took for granted, such as seeing our families and places we can visit. At DLD College London we adapted the way we delivered our lessons by going online to keep all of our students and staff safe. This was new for everybody and though it was a great challenge, our students continued to learn and progress whilst learning from home.

Here at our site in London we made numerous changes to allow the students to return safely. This included a quarantine for our International students, one-way systems, Perspex screens in the Global Kitchen and face coverings being worn by all. The College had a new look and feel to it in many ways, and I know many people were dubious about returning. We made a success of it though and everyone quickly got back into the routine when they returned to us and, more importantly, stayed safe.

On a personal note, I found the onsite COVID-19 testing a challenge, especially as it was launched over Christmas by the UK Government. There were many things to learn about how to test safely and efficiently – it is not something I ever considered myself doing when I started at DLD College London.

With the successful vaccination programme continuing here in the UK, I believe the worst is behind us and we can all look forward to a bright future.
