Yesterday a few of our DLD Marylebone CIE English students were taken to the Curzon Cinema on Kings Road, Chelsea where they got the unique opportunity to see the sold out Donmar Warehouse production of “Coriolanus”, William Shakespeare‘s searing tragedy of political manipulation and revenge. This was streamed live from the National Theatre Live to the Curzon cinema and other cinemas around London.
DLD Student Ayo Fagbemi said, “The performance of Coriolanus was one in which the theatrical aspect developed my fuller understanding of the play. This adaption with modern twists highlighted the dynamics of power between the people and the ruling class. At the heart of Coriolanus is a prevalent human struggle, the search for an identity.”
This was a particularly important trip as the “Coriolanus” is a set text on the Drama CIE paper that will be sat by the students in June.
