An Inspiring Careers Week

6th March 26

We marked Careers Week with a vibrant programme of activities designed to help students reflect on their aspirations, recognise their strengths, and explore the wide range of opportunities available to them beyond the classroom.

Throughout the week, staff from across the College shared insights into their own career journeys, offering students a unique look at the diverse paths that lead into education. From previous roles in finance, media, technology, and the creative industries, teachers highlighted the skills they developed along the way — and how these experiences continue to shape their work with students today. Their stories demonstrated that careers are rarely linear, and that adaptability, curiosity, and resilience are key to long‑term success.

Students also took part in sessions exploring future career pathways, with subject‑focused discussions ranging from geography‑related fields such as urban planning and environmental consultancy, through to media careers in journalism, production, and digital content creation. These sessions helped students connect their academic interests with real‑world industries and emerging opportunities.

A core element of the week involved reflective activities, encouraging students to identify their personal strengths, areas for development, and long‑term ambitions. By considering the skills they already possess — and those they want to build — students gained a clearer sense of direction and confidence in planning their next steps.

Careers Week at DLD continues to play an important role in empowering students to think boldly about their futures, equipping them with the insight and self‑awareness needed to thrive in an ever‑changing world.
