Year 9 students stepped into history this week as they visited Westminster Abbey as part of our London Learning programme, exploring the remarkable changemakers who shaped Britain and the wider world.
The visit gave students the chance to walk through one of the nation’s most iconic landmarks, home to over a thousand years of stories. Their focus for the day was the influential figures commemorated throughout the Abbey — scientists, writers, monarchs, activists, and innovators whose ideas and actions transformed society.
From Isaac Newton and Charles Darwin to Mary Seacole and Stephen Hawking, students explored how each individual challenged the norms of their time and left a lasting legacy.
The visit supported their wider London Learning curriculum, helping them connect historical understanding with modern citizenship and personal development.
Students returned to school energised by the experience, inspired by the stories of those who dared to think differently. The day offered not only a deeper appreciation of Westminster Abbey’s heritage but also a reminder that change often begins with curiosity, conviction, and a willingness to act.
