Dear Parents & Guardians,
The temperature is rising, the flowers are in bloom and the students are weary with effort. It must be half term.
Looking ahead to June, students and staff are slowly allowing themselves to get excited by the prospect of shifting our educational lens to a more skill based, social context approach. This includes our enrichment week. A focus on preparing our students for life beyond DLD, which also gives them an opportunity to achieve qualifications in areas outside their comfort zone. Students will be able to choose courses from a variety of options, including personal financial management, Drama awards, learning about stocks and shares. Or they may look to achieve their mental health first aid certificates, or entrepreneurship awards. Our Principal is also delivering his own MasterChef class – in essence, there is something for everyone to be part of and improve their knowledge beyond the traditional learning space.
This last week has been a busy one! I congratulate those BTEC students who have competed all their modules and are officially starting their summers. A huge thank you to their teachers for getting them over the line, and to our Examination Officer who works tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure all our students are catered for during this important time.
I wish you all a restful or productive half term break.
