21st March 24
British Science Week took place last week, acting as a platform to showcase the incredible achievements and breakthroughs in the realms of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). DLD marked the week with a series of engaging online events and talks with students. These included:
The Power of Prosthetics: Suzanne Faulkner
An Engineer’s Journey: How I came to work in Energy? Brian Addison
A Day in the Life of a Biomedical Scientist: Claire Cameron
ZSL Scientist in your classroom: Rob Deaville
Jobs in Space! Q&A with Rosie Cane from Space Wales
ZSL Scientist in your classroom: Lewis Rowden
These sessions also shone a light on societal challenges through the lens of science and technology, touching topics such as climate change and public health. By raising awareness and fostering informed discussions, the event encourages individuals to become active participants in shaping the future of science and society.
This variety of sessions gave our students the opportunity to consider the various careers available to them in these different fields, have their questions answered by STEM professionals and hear from role models particularly from under-represented groups, encouraging students to challenge stereotypes.
A big thank you to the DLD Science Team for organising a packed week of talks!
