12th May 23
We returned to school this week on Tuesday, owing to a unique public holiday to mark the coronation of King Charles III. The four day week at DLD continued to be a busy one, with the focus increasingly on external examination preparations and revision. For Year 13 A-Level students this has been the first week of independent study leave, whilst for Year 11 GCSE students and some IFP course students, it is their final week of formal lessons. Nevertheless, the support continues for students, with teachers available in school for support and revision questions, and the library available as a quiet study space. BTEC students continue to work on their external assessment projects and coursework to meet those all important deadlines. We are proud of the continuing efforts of students as the focus on academic endeavours intensifies.
We were proud to host several overseas visitors this week at DLD, who were keen to learn more about the award-winning pastoral and academic life at the school. Our visitors were particularly impressed with our wonderful Student Council team who spoke openly and naturally about their experiences at DLD. I would like to take the opportunity here to publicly thank the members of our new Student Council for their openness and maturity in their conversations with our visitors.
We continue to be impressed by a wide range of our students, including those student ambassadors who volunteered to support DLD’s open event yesterday evening. It was fantastic to host so many international and local young people and parents as they explored the next steps of their school career with us.
I wish all in our DLD community a restful weekend as we continue to focus hard on academic progress in the run up to assessment season for all students.
