The River Thames outside DLD College London

From the Principal #117

11th June 21

Another warm welcome from the college at the end of our first week back after the half-term break and indeed the warm weather is allowing the community the ability to use our outdoor spaces more and more. It has been great to see the new multi-purpose sports pitch being increasingly used during the day and it’s an excellent resource to support the wellbeing of the students during a busy and intense period of time.

Looking ahead, we are very much looking forward to the coming three week enrichment programme that will be focusing on developing the students with trips to universities, talks from inspirational and motivational speakers and activities aimed at stimulating and encouraging high aspirations. During this period of time we will be focusing on allocating the Year 12 students with their University Admissions Tutor (UAT), a dedicated tutor who will be supporting them individually through the university admissions process.

The introduction of the UAT role at the college is a new initiative and promises to offer an even greater focus of support for each and every student applying to university. We are delighted to introduce a role that will strengthen even further the outstanding support structures in college for the students. Dr Daniel Woodley, the Head of University Admssions and Careers, will be overseeing that team of Tutors and will continue to oversee the overall processes. There are more exciting strengthened opportunities of support for the students which will be introduced in September 2021 and that we will be sharing with you in the coming fortnight.

This week also marked the news that one of very talented Year 13 A Level Art students, Angela (Yun Sun), has been selected by The Royal Academy of Arts to have her sculpture displayed at their Young Artists’ Summer Show 2021. This is an outstanding achievement and we are delighted to be able to celebrate her success with you.

Have a great week ahead and for those of you following Euro 2020 for the next few weeks, best of luck to your team!

Tom
