LIVE VIRTUAL CHARITY 5K RAISES OVER £650

3rd November 20

On Sunday 1st November, over 30 awesome staff and students had an early morning start in preparation for our first ever ‘Live Virtual Charity 5k’ event to raise vital funds for Evelina London Children’s Hospital. With the Hospital located on our doorstep we have always tried to do what we can to support the charity over the past few years and I didn’t want the pandemic to stop that this year!

I was thrilled to see so many staff and students online at 9:45am via Teams all ready and raring to go. Those involved were given motivational messages from the Principal, Jamie Webb Team GB European Silver Medallist (800m) and Nathan Ramsden from The Evelina Fundraising Team. Nathan explained to us that since 2015 we as a community have raised over £9,500 for the charity which is an incredible amount and something we should all be hugely proud of.

Feeling inspired, students and staff got to work by walking, running and cycling towards their 5k goal. Personally, it was amazing to see the ‘selfies’ coming through from everyone who had completed their 5k although it did keep me busy for the rest of Sunday posting all of them on our DLD Instagram story ha! This event raised a total of £652 and the goal is now to reach that £10,000 milestone by the end of the academic year so watch this space for upcoming events.

A huge thank you to those staff and students who gave up their Sunday to take part and everyone who donated. A few special mentions to The Student Council Charity Team (Benita, Carl and Meher) for helping to organise and promote, Mark Johnson (Head of Wellbeing / Teacher of Drama and Theatre Studies) for his pre-event technical support, James Kidd Assistant Principal (Boarding) for organising our special guest Jamie Webb, Rachel Hall (Marketing & Communications Manager) for promoting the event and of course our Principal Irfan Latif for giving up his Sunday morning to support the event.
