A variety of students from DLD College London volunteered in a litter picking event in Lower Marsh and Waterloo Millennium Park, the largest event of it’s kind in the UK. The event, hosted by DLD, was supported by London’s Royal Docks Learning & Activity Centre, who provided part of the equipment for the volunteers.
The community driven event was launched by Surfers Against Sewages, a grassroots movement committed to protecting oceans, beaches and wildlife. The initiative saw 15,000 volunteers cleaning over 400 beaches and 60 rivers across London, with an aim to tackle growing plastic pollution before it reaches our coastlines. The Community Projects Group, formed by DLD’s Student Council is led by year 13 students, Cody and Sofia and supported by Gareth Evans (DLD Director of Studies). This event was just one of many for the group, who have promised many more exiting plans for the upcoming year.
“We are immensely proud of our students for participating in this worthy campaign,” says Gareth Evans. “Their tireless efforts were greatly appreciated and it was delightful to hear members of the public congratulating them for their support in the community.”
