BTEC Media Production Students set up DLD TV to stream live events

DLD TV is the official broadcasting network of DLD College London.

The channel is part of the BTEC Media Production course and is entirely student-led. Students are responsible for creating, planning and producing everything that you see. This gives them a great opportunity to run their own broadcasting network and also experience a range of job roles.

Students will have the opportunity to create a range of programmes from live streaming college events, to creating their own popular music programme and news broadcasts.

Having recently moved to their new location in Westminster, DLD has invested a great deal to ensure that the students have the competitive edge. We have state of the art 4K Ultra HD technology which allows us to broadcast in the highest resolution. The students are able to apply both their theoretical and practical knowledge of media in a real world scenario. BTEC Media Production course leader, John Branney, stated his reasons for why this is an essential part of the curriculum:

“Developments in technology have made it feasible for us to create our own content and compete with professional broadcasters. Rather than having students hypothetically discuss whether they feel their idea would engage an audience, DLD TV gives the students the opportunity to test their ideas out for real. We can measure their impact on audience share and we can evaluate what works and what doesn’t. Most of all, the students get to be part of something real and take what they learn in the classroom out into the job market. We have already established some great partnerships with professional talent and organisations, including the BFI. I can’t wait to see what the students can do.”
