‘Nothing is impossible’ is a phrase I have often used to help me see beyond a problem and look at finding possible solutions and to stay strong. And the phrase has taken on a new meaning as we combat this global pandemic that has made life, at times, seem impossible. Captain Tom, who celebrated his 100th birthday yesterday, has inspired a generation during this outbreak. If you had said to me a few weeks ago that a 100 year old war veteran will raise over £30m for the NHS by walking 100 times around his garden using his walking frame, I would have said ‘that is impossible’. But as we have seen, the erudite Captain Tom has achieved just that and more, and has become a national treasure and a beacon of hope during this challenging time – nothing is impossible.
We are beginning to see some countries easing their lockdown measures and the UK having ‘passed the peak’ of infection after some 6 weeks in lockdown. “Hurrah!” I hear you say, but we need to be cautious. Although there is light at the end of this very long tunnel, we still have a long way to go and by working together we can all get through this. Parents, guardians and students have been exceptional during this time (they always are!) and I thank you for your continued cooperation and messages of support; they mean a lot to us as a community during this difficult time, making us stronger – keep them coming!
These selfless acts of kindness for each other including those on the front-line, key workers and even our neighbours is very powerful and the hope must be that after all of this, our society, like the virus, will mutate into something stronger.
