What is the Pre-A Level Art Programme?

A specialist, intensive course that prepares students for A Level Art & Design study. Expert teaching guidance, advice and instruction is given, and students have access to a broad range of resources and facilities. Drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, CGI, mixed media, 3-D, animation, & film work is explored within the Course.

This intensive Course requires full commitment (32 periods per week) Students will develop a broad range of technical and creative skills, as well as in-depth knowledge of historic and contemporary art practice. They will also develop their own creative identity and specialist areas of interest as they prepare for Art based A Level study the following year.

Students will also receive expert guidance and support during their art based studies at DLD especially after A Levels or IFP when applying to various specialist Degree Courses of world re-known universities in London, nationally, and internationally. Art Colleges include Central Saint Martin’s, Chelsea, Camberwell, Wimbledon, The London College of Fashion, The London College of Communication, Goldsmith’s, Kingston, Ravensbourne, Glasgow and City & Guilds. Degree specialisms include Fine Art, Graphic Design, Fashion Design, Illustration, Interior Design & Architecture. DLD Art students also regularly win awards in regional and national competitions.

Studying in London, students also have access to one of the largest and most diverse ranges of museums, galleries, exhibitions and art related events in any city in the world.

Who is the course for?

The course is for students who are ambitious, enthusiastic, and possess a serious interest in Art and Design as a career path. The course will develop your professional skills, abilities and ideas, and you will produce a high quality portfolio. You will also be given expert professional guidance and support when applying for further Art & Design based study.

Entry Requirements

Students applying for this course should have a strong desire and determination to study Art & Design intensively. It is desirable for students to show evidence of a strong practical interest in Art. This could include practical work exploring a range of technical and creative skills and ideas, sketchbook and project-based work.

Students must have, and be willing to develop, a strong command of written and spoken English. Please note: The entry requirement in the English language for this course is 5.0 IELTS equivalent or an English GCSE qualification.
