Last week the weather was stunning, culminating in a glorious weekend on the coast with our new Student Council (more about that below) and the internationally recognised event, The London Marathon (the hottest on record) which went past our iconic building.

This week we raised awareness of #MyFreedomDay our students took to the stage to perform to millions of people around the world of what freedom meant to them. The occasion was televised by CNN and the students were, as always, impressive on stage as they performed the likes of Coldplay, Oasis and their own personal compositions which reflected the value of freedom.
With the ‘Beast from the East’ finally fleeing for colder climes and ice thawing at the tail end of last showing signs of thawing. The two leaders are planning to talk (the first of its kind in history) and the latter is stopping nuclear testing for the time being. I would love to be a fly on the wall during that particular question time. However, it is a lesson for us all that by having open channels of communication we can begin to resolve issues which could otherwise if left, could become strained and difficult. The Paralympic Winter Games have begun in Pyeongchang (The Olympics have no doubt helped to thaw the relationship between the US and North Korea) and we will be watching the athletes perform to the highest standards over the next couple, of weeks, as I hope our students do here at College day in and day out

DLD College Students participated in a 5k or 10k run, raising over £1,400 in aid of Evelina Children’s Hospital, a specialist London hospital and community services that is part of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.
For the second year running students and staff here at DLD College London, set out on a challenge to complete either a 5k or 10K charity run for Evelina Children’s Hospital at Lee Valley VeloPark, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in East London.

On Wednesday 21st February DLD Pride was invited to the Educate & Celebrate Bake Off Finals Event 2018, Educake & Celebake. DLD College London recently took part in the Debating Matters Championships, one of the most prestigious debating competitions in the UK, at St Mary’s University, Twickenham. Twelve schools battled it out for the crown of Debating Matters London South Champions. They tackled a number of difficult topics throughout the day.
On Friday students in the Art department here at DLD College London were visited by Cameron, a young graphic designer who works in London.
Nelson Mandela’s ex-body guard Chris Lubbe delivered an inspirational talk on discrimination to DLD College London students this week.
Chris Lubbe was Nelson Mandela’s bodyguard for eight years, and always by his side as he continued on his mission to unite South Africa. DLD were delighted to welcome Chris to the college as the first keynote speaker of 2018. He gave a moving and inspirational talk to students and staff on the topic of discrimination.

DLD College London recently announced the appointment of their new principal Irfan Latif. Mr Latif comes to DLD from Sexey’s School, Burton, where he was Headmaster for over four years.

DLD College London has consolidated its senior leadership team with the addition of highly experienced boarding school housemaster, Thomas Hadcroft. Thomas will be taking on the role of Deputy Principal for Boarding and Welfare.
Students at DLD College London are celebrating posting yet another set of magnificent A-Level exam results this year. Students set a record this year with an overall pass rate of 98%. An incredible 38% of students posted A*-A grades, while 63% scored A*-B and 84% achieved A*-C grades.

DLD student Lorenzo Niyonbgabo’s performance in the DLD Fringe production of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night was highly praised by everyone who came to see the show. Lorenzo’s performance was all the more remarkable as it was the first time this budding young actor has tread the boards.
