It has been another busy start to what remains of this summer term at DLD College, not least as the exam season continues at pace. The Y12 students have had their progression exams and now embark on preparation for next year’s A-level material and looking at potential university courses while the Y13s are in full exam flow.
This week we had the privilege of hosting the Headmaster and Deputy Head from Clifton College in Bristol, who came to see the College and were impressed with what they saw. Working with such prestigious colleges to share ideas and good practice is beneficial to us all and I look forward to working with them in the future. They commented on how calm our students seem to be despite the exams, and that the atmosphere around College was both purposeful and industrious. And that is how it has been all week. This afternoon’s BTEC Celebration Event was testimony to that. A great occasion where we celebrated the achievements of those students undertaking the BTEC qualification, and it also offered the opportunity to wish Jo Harland, who has been teaching BTEC Creative Media Production course, the very best as she goes on maternity leave today. It was great to see staff and students working hard to achieve their targets and goals.
Speaking of goals, the World Cup starts next week and with 32 countries taking part, it certainly reflects our diverse and rich community here at College. No doubt, those of us who are interested, will watch the games religiously, collect the stickers and become football pundits over the next month. However, sport has the power to bring communities (and countries) together and I hope that the World Cup in Russia will do just that, building tolerance and respect within communities so that we can live and work together, bring out the best in each other. Now I wonder who I will get in the sweepstake…
