What is Graphics?
Graphics is the practical and critical/contextual work in one or more area(s) including illustration, advertising, packaging design, design for print, communication graphics, computer graphics, multimedia - lens based photography and animation. Graphic design is a fantastic creative outlet; your imagination can run wild whilst learning practical skills and visual understanding. Graphic design complements Photography and Art and other creative subjects.
What will I study?
Students explore computer aided design, digital imagery and illustration. You will learn how to create computer-based designs such as posters, adverts, and CD's using your own digital photographs and drawings. The course will cover how to use digital cameras to create effective imagery, alongside more practical elements such as printing and drawing. Once you have created your own visual material to work from, you will then be shown how to create and manipulate images using Photoshop. You will also learn how to work in response to a design brief and how to create successful design compositions in a variety of graphic formats, using both type and image. As well as the technical aspects you will also explore the different roles of design, how it is used in society today and you will study the work of other artists and cultures, relating these to your own work.
How is it assessed?
| Weighting | Format | |
| Unit 1 | 60% | Portfolio of work |
| Unit 2 | 40% | Externally set Task (10 Hour Exam) |
